Hopegill Head should be on everyone’s Lake District bucket list.
But it isn’t a mountain that grabs the headlines.
While other fells are universally praised and hog the column inches in books and magazines about the great outdoors.
Others – like Hopegill Head – fail to attract the attention of walkers or writers and are often overlooked by the crowds for higher profile peaks nearby.
This doesn’t mean they are any less magnificent.
And I have always thought Hopegill Head is somewhat under-rated.
It has an amazing exposed summit and, approaching from Whinlatter Forest, it proves a superb climb.
These were the views I had one glorious evening last week.
Why not pay it a visit on your next trip to the Lake District?
